Brooklyn food importer, A&S Food Trading is issuing a recall of the Hua Zhi Ying brand gourd candy from China. The candy contains about 33.22 mg of sulfites per serving, making it a potential health risk. Consuming as little as 10 mg of sulfites can cause serious allergic reactions in some asthmatics.
An inspector from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets stated that most of the candy has already been pulled and only a small quantity has been sold.
There have been no reported illnesses, and consumers who have purchased this candy are asked to return it to the place of purchase.
